Rules and formation of Tenses with Examaples

1. Simple Present Tense:

   Formation: Subject + Base form of verb (+s/es for third person singular)

   Example:

  • She sings beautifully.
  • They eat lunch at noon.

2. Present Continuous Tense:

   Formation: Subject + am/is/are + Present Participle (Base form + ing)

   Example:

  • He is playing football.
  • They are studying for their exams.

3. Present Perfect Tense:

   Formation: Subject + have/has + Past Participle

   Example:

  • I have finished my homework.
  • She has lived here for ten years.

4. Present Perfect Continuous Tense:

   Formation: Subject + have/has + been + Present Participle

   Example:

  • They have been waiting for you.
  • She has been working on this project all day.

5. Simple Past Tense:

   Formation: Subject + Past form of verb

   Example:

  • He played basketball yesterday.
  • She studied hard for the exam.

6. Past Continuous Tense:

   Formation: Subject + was/were + Present Participle

   Example:

  • They were watching TV when I called.
  • She was cooking dinner at 7 pm.

7. Past Perfect Tense:

   Formation: Subject + had + Past Participle

   Example:

  • By the time we arrived, they had already left.
  • She had finished her work before the meeting started.

8. Past Perfect Continuous Tense:

   Formation: Subject + had + been + Present Participle

   Example:

  • She had been working there for five years before she quit.
  • They had been waiting for the bus for an hour when it finally arrived.

9. Simple Future Tense:

   Formation: Subject + will/shall + Base form of verb

   Example:

  • I will go to the store tomorrow.
  • She shall call you later.

10. Future Continuous Tense:

    Formation: Subject + will/shall + be + Present Participle

    Example:

  • They will be studying all night for the exam.
  • He will be waiting for you at the airport.

11. Future Perfect Tense:

    Formation: Subject + will/shall + have + Past Participle

    Example:

  • By next year, I will have graduated from university.
  • She will have completed her project by the deadline.

12. Future Perfect Continuous Tense:

    Formation: Subject + will/shall + have + been + Present Participle

    Example:

  • By the time you arrive, I will have been waiting for two hours.
  • She will have been working on this assignment for a week by Friday.
